KENTWELL SUPPERS

There will be two Acts with a one hour supper interval in between when the Gardens are floodlit. Kentwell Suppers in the Undercroft (or outside if fine) may be booked in advance.  The first part of the supper is served before the play starts, pudding and coffee are served in the Interval. The play ends at about 11pm. Picnic tables of various sizes (for 4, 6 or 8 persons with integral seating) may be booked in advance.

We will make every effort to complete the performance and reserve the right to stop and start the action as necessary. Performances are never cancelled or abandoned before the advertised starting time and then only in the event of very bad weather. Refunds are not given for cancellation or abandonment as a result of the weather

Kentwell Hall and it’s magnificent gardens provide an idyllic setting for Shakespeare’s best loved romantic comedies, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing.

This stunning Tudor Manor has a magical quality that seems to transport you back in time and so it is hard to imagine a more beautiful and fitting settings for open-air Shakespeare.

These productions will be performed in beautiful Elizabethan costumes by a cast of 16 of Britain’s finest professional Shakespearian actors and will include live music and hilarious comedy all set in the stunning natural surroundings that Shakespeare intended for his plays.

A magical open-air festival of love, laughter and amorous adventure, performed by a company that continues to delight audiences and critics alike.

Kentwell Hall - Make a day of it!

Kentwell is a superlative moated Tudor manor, built in the early 16th century by the Clopton family. John Clopton became wealthy in the wool trade; so wealthy that he was able to build nearby Long Melford church, one of the most extravagant medieval churches in all of England. The exterior of Kentwell has changed little from the house that Clopton built, though a great deal has been done to renovate and refurbish the interior over the years.

Kentwell Hall

Kentwell presents a wonderful sight, its open courtyard facing onto a moat stocked with carp, its two wings reaching almost to the water's edge. The moat is crossed via a low bridge giving onto the courtyard, where a Tudor Rose maze has been recreated. The interior of Kentwell has been much restored, including a working Tudor kitchen and Hall with minstrels gallery.

The extensive and beautiful grounds surrounding Kentwell feature box and yew topiary, a walled garden laid out in 17th century style, and enjoyable woodland walks.

Living History

Kentwell did much to popularize domestic "living history" reenactments in the UK with the focus being on re-creations of everyday life in the Tudor era. Kentwell hosts an annual recreation of Tudor life that covers three weeks each June and July, as well as shorter weekend events throughout the year.
